The Green Scene is Wesleyan's new environmental newsletter. Look to us for weekly updates on relevant news, lectures, conferences, meetings, and other interesting little environmental tidbits.

Events/Lectures:
~Climate Justice Fast

-Fast: Join the hunger strike, or undertake a shorter solidarity fast.
-Volunteer: Help us with promotion, media, or logistics.
-Donate: We need funding for IT costs, promotion (T-shirts, banners), logistics, and professional media support.
-Create: Filmmaker? Musician? Artist? Designer? Your skills can help CJF to reach and move people, and by so doing change the world.

~Emergency Response Studio: Discussion and Desserts
-There will be a discussion with free desserts tomorrow in the trailer

~Pumpkin-Fest
-Pumpkin Fest, October 31 (rain date Nov 1), happens each year at Long Lane Farm from 1-4 and brings together Wesleyan and the Middletown community for music, food, environmental awareness, arts and crafts, and much more!!!!
-If your house, residence hall, or student group would like to have a table at the event- please contact Alex Ketchum (aketchum@wesleyan.edu) by October 1

~Household Hazardous Waste Collection in Middletown
-This Saturday, October 3rd from 8am-1pm at Moody School
-They need volunteers to direct traffic and collect surveys from participants
-If interested in helping out, please email Kim O'Rourke (kim.orourke@cityofmiddletown.com)

Action On Campus!
~Film Screening of Crude
~Polly Clare-Rothe wants to film a screening of Crude, a documentary about the legal struggle between Chevron and the people of Ecuador's Amazon. The movie is not only eye-opening but also entertaining (made by Joe Berlinger, who also directed Paradise Lost). If anyone is interested in helping her get this going, send her an email: pclarerothe@wesleyan.edu

~LAST WEEK's 350 Phone-a-thon
-Monday's Wake Up call was unbelievable - 2632 events in 134 countries, tens of thousands of phone calls crashing government lines, unbelievable creativity and diversity of events, directly reaching heads of state and cabinet ministers from Australia to Europe. Outside Opportunities:
~The Morris K. Udall Foundation Scholarship:
-Awards $5,000 scholarships to sophomore and junior undergrads with a demonstrated commitment to solving environmental issues through policy, science (hard and soft), engineering, architecture, economics, the arts, or any combination of the above. Udall Scholars also get to attend the Scholar Orientation in August and are immediately plugged into a growing and active alumni network.
