What You Can Do About Climate Change and Energy Policy in Connecticut

Tuesday, February 23, 7 p.m.

At First Church of Christ, 190 Court St. in Middletown

Roger Smith
, Coordinator of the Connecticut Climate Coalition and Campaign Director of Clean Water Action will tell us what is coming up in the current 2010 session of the Connecticut Legislature, including measures to help residents improve home energy efficiency and support solar power. In another tough budget year, citizen action will be critical in order to pass clean energy-related legislation.

Save $ On Your Home Energy Bills

The Jonah Center is still promoting state-subsidized energy efficiency program (Home Energy Solutions, HES) that will reduce your energy bills and protect the environment. 64 households have obtained this service and the feedback has been very positive. The co-pay is $75, but the service is worth up to $1000 in home improvements. The service will seal air leaks, install energy efficient light bulbs and faucets, and teach you a lot about your house, where heat is escaping and electricity is being wasted.

Recently, the Jonah Center formed a partnership with NEAT (North End Action Team) to promote the WRAP program, which is the program designed for households whose income is less than 60% of the state median. There is no fee for WRAP services and the benefits are even greater than for HES. In some cases, residents may be eligible to have insulation installed or very old appliances replaced.
